Background[]
Dacey, 21, was the second youngest of five children (oldest siblings 32, 33 & 35 - all male). [Insert parental professions]. As a child, Dacey never showed any interest in sports or the other interests his brothers had. Instead, he was quite content to be left alone with his maths and puzzles, which worked out for the best because his sister, barely a year younger than he was, was clearly the favourite. When he was nine, his parents were killed in a demonstration of Rebel/NR supporters that turned into a full blown riot, though he's never been sure which side they were supporting.
With their elder siblings already fully grown and out in the world, Dacey and his sister were forked off into foster homes. Dacey continued his meek, studious existence, happy with the little worlds he created in his imagination (there's almost a guarantee that he has huge collections of short stories he's written), barely acknowledging that his life had been completely turned around.
When he was fourteen, Dacey was moved into another foster home, where he met Fitz. Brash and vibrant, Fitz managed to draw the shy little teen out of his books and games and open his eyes to the outside world. For a few months, Fitz always taking the lead, the two kept up a secret relationship. When the foster parents inevitably found out, Fitz denied ever wanting the relationship and claimed that Dacey had forced him into it. It was hardly believable, but Dacey turned out to be a defiant little thing that refused to deny what was, in all fairness, his first love.
So, Fitz scampered off and acted penitent and got himself a girlfriend, and Dacey was shipped off to spend several years in a mental institution to have the homosexuality shocked out of him.
By the time he was released, Dacey was a legal adult on Ator. He was also more timid than ever and, while he'll swear through his teeth that he's as straight as straight can be, he's gained a couple other quirks (to be decided on as he develops). With no other talents to go on, he's come to rely on his love of maths and puzzles as a gateway into slicing. There aren't many companies on Ator he hasn't designed the encryption system for, even if his superiors tend to take the credit.
