Introduction[]

My name is Dan Finn. I've lived a long and full life, so it's time, I think, to write it all down. These are my memoirs, and many lessons can be learned from them. After all, I've done a lot of living ...

My Early History[]

Maybe it's best if I start with my father. Jon Finn was a free spirit living in the regimented farming society of Dantooine. Farming was never really a great fit for my old man, and as soon as he could he left for the wider range of opportunities the galaxy had to offer, taking the love of his life in tow. Yara was my mam, somewhat dependent on Da for emotional support, but I digress.

They arrived on Corellia, moving to Coronet and soon finding themselves housed deep in the Blue Sector slums. Da found work as a droid maintenance technician, but he got paid for less than chips while Mam did her waitressing thing. Safe to say, there wasn't an abundance to eat at the best of times and when they started breeding ... Well, things got worse. Mara was the eldest of the family, their beautiful girl. Sadly, I never remembered her in my childhood, as she disappeared when I was three. But they didn't stop there. My eldest brother Thrackan was born two years later, then Dack a year after him. I was next, Dan. Da had always been keen on Corellian names for the boys but Ma got her way when my turn came around. So Dan it was, two years after Dack and another mouth to feed. The next year, Ma gave birth to twins. Wedge and Asha, inseparable to say the least. Then three years after that came Han. That boy never had a chance of a proper childhood.

When I got old enough to run without tripping over my feet, I was indoctrinated by Dack and Thrackan into the Finn family trade. Namely, pickpocketing, scamming, and robbing folks blind. Even in my later years I never regretted that ... it was necessary, and we had to eat. And given my exploits later in life, I'm sure a few of those poor folks I robbed would have gladly given me more than I took. But as a youngster, I had a strong sense of justice and found myself unhappy with my life of crime from an early age. So as Thrackan and Dack started falling deeper and deeper into the criminal underworld, I found myself pulling away and trying to find a legitimate means of employment.

I first found work as a strictly unofficial tour guide of Coronet's nicer districts. I may have looked scruffy, but I was a hell of a lot cheaper than the other guys and I knew my way around better than they did. This venture had mixed results. I was able to make money legitimately but never able to completely shake off my criminal brothers, who often showed up at the end of my tours and shook down my unfortunate clients.

I then met a mechanic called Jagged Karkel, and my life changed forever. At first it was great. He made me his apprentice and I got a roof, food and a steady income. And not to mention a set of skills that I never regretted learning. However, this new job heralded an unfortunate series of family tragedies. First, Thrackan and Dack were killed in a firefight with Corellian Security in the middle of a drug bust. Mam was distraught, Da somewhat philosophical about the whole thing, but I saw the emptiness in his eyes. It was the look of a man who had fought the world and lost.

And then, Asha was hit and killed by a speeder crossing a busy intersection not long after. A few weeks later it was Wedge's turn. He lost a knife fight deep in the slums ... it took days to find his body. He was always the wildest of us, the angriest. He had changed so much from the younger brother I had, and now he was dead. This left just me, Mam, Da, and my youngest brother Han. Mam was half-mad, Da severely depressed. Han had been raised by my two older brothers, and while his heart was in the right place he had a real misconception of right and wrong. As such, I felt the need to take him in.

Han and I lived together a few months, but that was brought to an end by the death of ol' Jagged the mechanic. Heart failure, they said. So at seventeen, I was back on the streets, and I had a thirteen year old brother to look after. Desperation turned me back to the exploits of my childhood. I was always the best of the Finn children at pickpocketing and thieving, and so Han and I did quite well for a couple of street urchins. But I thirsted for legitimacy. I managed to swing me a job doing maintenance work on freighters at Coronet Spaceport. Furthermore, I actually managed to find the only honest man left on Corellia, who treated me fair and paid me well. Han moved in with me again and we here happy.

I was nineteen, and ready to begin a new chapter in my life.
